The FC/UPC SM optical patch cord, 5 m long, from Pixietech is a single-mode cord of increased length for situations when equipment is spaced at a considerable distance within a technical room. Five meters allow freely routing the cable along a cable tray, going around obstacles, and leaving a reserve for relocating equipment. The FC/UPC connector with flat polish ensures reliable optical contact and is compatible with standard FC adapters.

Don't the extra meters of cable add noticeable losses?

At lengths up to 10 m, the attenuation in the SM fiber itself amounts to fractions of a decibel — it can be neglected; the main losses are formed at the connectors.

How to lay the excess cable reserve so as not to damage the fiber?

Coil the excess into a ring with a diameter of at least 5–6 cm and secure it with a soft tie — this is above the minimum bend radius of the fiber.

Is this patch cord compatible with OTDR measuring instruments?

Yes, FC/UPC is a standard connector for many reflectometers; make sure the polish type of the instrument's adapter matches UPC.
