How to choose

• ✓Sensor resolution. At least 4 MP is needed for identifying faces or reading license plates; 2 MP is sufficient for a general overview of premises. Higher resolution requires more storage space and network bandwidth.
• ✓Lens and field of view. A fixed 2.8 mm lens provides wide coverage — suitable for small spaces. A varifocal lens (for example, 2.8–12 mm) allows the angle to be adjusted after installation — convenient for the outdoors and long corridors.
• ✓Infrared illumination. Pay attention to the IR illumination range: for parking lots and perimeters you need 40–50 m or more, while for an office corridor 15–20 m is enough. Some models are equipped with color illumination (ColorVu, ColorHunter) — they provide a color image even at night.
• ✓Enclosure protection rating. For outdoor installation, an IP66 class (dust and moisture protection) is the minimum required. An IK10 vandal-resistant design is relevant for public spaces and entrance areas.
• ✓Power. PoE (Power over Ethernet) simplifies installation — a single cable carries both data and power. Check the standard: PoE (802.3af, up to 15.4 W) or PoE+ (802.3at, up to 30 W) — this determines compatibility with the switch.
• ✓Built-in analytics. Modern cameras support motion detection, line crossing, visitor counting, face and plate recognition. Onboard analytics reduces the load on the server.
• ✓Compatibility with the recorder. Make sure the camera works with your NVR via the ONVIF protocol or within the manufacturer's single ecosystem — this guarantees correct transmission of all functions.
