At home an alarm exists for one purpose: so that you learn about a stranger inside before he can carry anything out, and so that you are not the only one who learns it. SAT Solutions installs alarms in apartments, private houses and country cottages — from a panel with three detectors in a one-room flat to a two-storey house with a garage, an attic floor and a separate gate. The residential task is built differently from the workplace one: there is no duty officer, no shifts and nobody whose job it is to hand the premises over to guarding, so the system has to forgive forgetfulness rather than punish it with needless noise.

When the finishing work is already done, we take a wireless kit — the Hikvision AX PRO line. Detectors hold on two screws or an adhesive plate, no cable is pulled through the living space, no walls are chased, wallpaper and tiles stay intact. The radio link is encrypted and acknowledges every message: if a detector stops answering, the panel says so instead of silently assuming that all is well. When the house is still being built and the walls are open, it is more honest to lay a cable loop in conduit — then no batteries are needed at all and nothing shows on the surface except the detectors themselves.

The set of detectors is assembled around how people actually get into a home. In a flat that means the entrance door and, on a low floor or next to a fire escape, the windows: a magnetic contact detector on the leaf fires at the moment it is opened. A room as a whole is covered by a volumetric infrared detector, a long corridor by a narrow-beam one so that it does not react to glare from a window. A house with panoramic glazing and a veranda gets an acoustic glass-break detector: it reacts to a pair of sounds — the dull impact and the ring of falling shards — so the alarm goes out before anyone climbs through the frame.

The same panel takes household detectors, which in a home trigger far more often than the anti-theft ones. A leak detector under the sink, beside the washing machine and in the bathroom catches water in the first seconds and, with motorised valves fitted, shuts the supply off by itself; repairs for the neighbours below cost more than the whole system. A smoke detector in the hallway and the kitchen wakes you at night and sends a notification even when nobody is home. A dog or a cat is no obstacle: pet-immune detectors rated for animals up to 20-25 kg ignore movement near the floor and will not turn your holiday into a stream of empty alarms.

Home modes are configured once and then need no attention. Night mode drops the rooms where you sleep and keeps the hallway, the kitchen, the staircase and the ground floor under watch: you walk to the kitchen for water and the system stays quiet, while an opened entrance door still raises the alarm. Away mode turns everything on, volumetric detectors included. Switching is done with a fob by the door, a code on the keypad or from the app — you can set the home from the car if you remember it halfway there. The app shows more than alarms: you see who disarmed and at what time, which is how parents learn that a child is back from school.

A power cut and a broken internet link are planned for in advance. The panel has its own battery: when 220 V disappears it keeps running for another 12-24 hours depending on the model and the number of detectors, and it sends a power-failure notification straight away. The communication path is backed up by mobile: a SIM card goes into the panel, and if Wi-Fi fails the signal leaves over the cellular network; if that drops too, the event is stored and arrives once the link returns. Batteries in wireless detectors last two to three years on average, the panel warns in advance about each one running low, and replacement takes a minute — we show how it is done when we hand the site over.

We separately agree what happens if the owner has not seen the notification. Trusted people are added to the app: a spouse, grown-up children, parents, a neighbour with a key. The alarm reaches all of them at once rather than in turn, and each of them can see who has already responded. The indoor siren works less on passers-by than on the intruder himself: staying in a room with 105 decibels is physically hard, and in most cases the person leaves empty-handed. A private house also gets an outdoor siren with a strobe, which marks the right address for whoever drives up.

Installing an apartment fits into a single working day, app setup and a walkthrough for the family included; a private house with a garage and a gate usually takes two.
