Site specifics
A warehouse is narrow aisles between racks up to 12 m tall. A ceiling camera in the aisle sees only the tops of pallets, so we place cameras along the aisles and at row ends, and cover receiving and dispatch zones separately.
Disputes almost always arise at receiving and dispatch. On the ramps we install cameras with a clear view of the truck plate and the unloading zone, add ANPR at the entrance and tie the event to the waybill by time.
In cold zones and on ramps condensate kills ordinary cameras. We use models with an extended temperature range and sealed glands, and move power supplies into the warm zone.
How we run the project
- 1Layout for the warehouse topology
We take the floor plan with rack placement and storage zones, calculate view overlaps and choose focal lengths for the aisle length — otherwise pallet labels are unreadable on video.
- 2Installation by zones
We start with receiving and dispatch so the result shows immediately, then move to storage and the perimeter. Cables run along existing trays so as not to hinder forklifts.
- 3Binding to warehouse operations
We configure search by event time and by gate: a security officer finds the needed dispatch in a minute instead of scrubbing hours of footage.
- 4Training and procedures
We show storekeepers and guards how to export a clip for a supplier claim and leave a short instruction at the workplace.
Challenges and how we solve them
At aisle turns the machinery regularly clips structures. We lift cameras above the mast working zone and protect runs with metal conduit up to 3 m.
Open gates give backlight by day, and a person in the doorway becomes a silhouette. We use wide-dynamic-range cameras and turn the angle so the sun does not hit the sensor.
Video floods the channel and storekeepers' data terminals drop. We split the networks and build a separate managed-switch segment for video.
