RBGPOE-CON-HP is a PoE power converter from 48 V down to 24 V that passes gigabit traffic and supports the 802.3af/at standard.

The problem it solves comes up constantly: the switch delivers the standard 48 volts while an older MikroTik device expects 24. Without a converter you would have to pull a separate power line or replace the switch.

The module is inserted into the cable run and simply steps the voltage down without interfering with data. It is compact enough to sit in a junction box next to the device, and is often used when upgrading networks where old and new equipment run side by side.

Which devices does the converter work with?

Any MikroTik powered by passive 24 V: older RouterBOARD units, SXT and LHG radios and the like. On the input it accepts standard 802.3af/at 48 V from any PoE switch.

Does it cut the speed?

No, the converter is gigabit: all four pairs pass straight through and the 1000 Mbps link holds along the whole line.

Where to place it — at the switch or at the device?

At the consuming device: that way most of the run carries standard 48 V with lower losses, and the step-down to 24 V happens in the last meter.
