Description
The SKL-6C is a field cleaver for optical fibers used to prepare the fiber end face for fusion splicing and for mounting fast connectors. The rotating blade with 16 working positions delivers a total service life of up to 48,000 cleaves, and an end-face angle of about 0.5° provides quality sufficient both for mechanical splices and for a fusion splicer. The tool accepts fiber in 250 and 900 um buffer, the PUSH button returns the carriage with a single press, and the collection cassette stores shards for safe disposal.
For FTTH crews it is the basic tool of daily work: every subscriber means at least one cleave, and usually several. Losses in a joint depend directly on cleave quality, so a dependable cleaver saves both time and repeat visits. Working with the tool
The fiber is stripped of its buffer, wiped with an alcohol wipe and laid into the guide at the required cleave length — for fast connectors it is set by the manual of the specific model. The lid closes, the blade makes the cut, and the end face comes out flat with no extra processing; it must not be touched by hand or laid on the table. Fiber shards are hazardous — they must go only into the collection cassette, which is periodically emptied into a separate container. When cleaves become inconsistent, the blade is rotated to the next of its 16 positions — this way the tool serves for years without a blade replacement.
