Smart Home Cost: Prices and Where to Start

A smart home is a set of devices run from one app: lighting and sockets, curtains, air-conditioner control, CCTV, a smart lock and sensors (leak, smoke, motion).

You do not need everything at once: the system is modular. Most people start with lighting and curtains, then add cameras, a lock and sensors — everything works together in one ecosystem.

The most useful part of a smart home is security: a smart lock and camera at the entrance, motion and smoke sensors inside, leak sensors in the kitchen and bathroom. Everything notifies your phone.

One scene switches everything off and arms the home when you leave; on return the lights and AC come on by themselves. We work with Tuya, Hikvision and other ecosystems.

Send the flat or house plan — we will say what belongs in each room and quote two or three tiers: starter, medium and full. Installation depends on the state of the interior: wired solutions for a fresh renovation, wireless for a finished home.

The costliest mistake is a zoo of apps: bulbs in one, sockets in another, cameras in a third — and there is nothing to build the "left home" scenario from. The second is lighting on smart bulbs alone: the wall switch stops working, and a family holding smartphones quickly cools to automation.

A smart home grows over years, so the protocol is chosen at the start: Zigbee and Wi-Fi devices coexist in one system only through a common hub. In our catalogue that means Tapo and Tuya — Zigbee sensors run through the gateway while Wi-Fi sockets and switches connect directly. A closed single-brand ecosystem will later refuse a third-party sensor or curtain drive.

Build in reserve from the outset: spare modules in the distribution board, a neutral wire in switch back boxes, two or three spare cable runs, and UPS power for the hub. Without this, expansion means chasing walls that have already been decorated.
