What iVMS-4200 is for
iVMS-4200 is Hikvision's official free application for Windows and macOS: live view, archive playback, clip export, PTZ control and event notifications. It talks to Hikvision and HiLook NVRs, DVRs and IP cameras and handles dozens of devices at once — the standard tool for a guard post or an administrator.
Unlike the mobile Hik-Connect app, iVMS-4200 is built for permanent desktop duty: multi-screen layouts, video export for incident review, site maps and event logs. A phone app is enough at home; an office or warehouse with a monitoring post needs iVMS-4200.
Where to download the official build
Download iVMS-4200 only from the official Hikvision site — Support → Download → Software (hikvision.com). The current Windows and macOS builds are always there, with no repacks. Third-party bundles from file hosts often carry extras you do not want on a security workstation.
For Central Asia Hikvision runs a separate CATC download portal with the same builds. After installation the interface language is switched in System Configuration → General → Language.
Adding an NVR and cameras
Open Device Management → Add. On the same LAN, click Online Device — the app discovers devices itself; enter the admin login and password. To add by address, choose IP/Domain and enter the device address, port 8000 and admin credentials.
For a remote site without a public IP, add via Hik-Connect Domain: enable Hik-Connect on the recorder (Network → Advanced → Platform Access), sign in to the account in iVMS-4200 and the devices appear. Then drag cameras into the Main View layout; Remote Playback opens the archive.
Common problems and fixes
Device not found on the same LAN — check both are in one subnet and pause the firewall during discovery. Repeated wrong passwords lock the account for a few minutes — wait and retype. Black tiles with many cameras are cured by Hardware Decoding (Image settings) or by viewing the sub-stream.
If the app stops seeing devices after a Windows update, reinstall the latest build from the official site — settings and the device list survive the upgrade.
FAQ
Is iVMS-4200 free?
Yes, completely: Hikvision distributes it freely for its devices. There is no paid pro edition — any site charging for the download is not official.
Does it work with HiLook and other brands?
HiLook — yes, it is a Hikvision sub-brand. Other makers' cameras connect over ONVIF with reduced features; mixed fleets are happier on a universal VMS.
Can I view cameras without a public IP?
Yes — through the Hik-Connect cloud: enable Platform Access on the recorder and sign in inside iVMS-4200. No port forwarding or static IP needed.
