Frequently asked questions
How does a VFL find damage?
The red laser is injected into the fibre: at a break, crack or bad splice the light escapes and is visible through the jacket and splice sleeve.
Does it replace an OTDR?
Partly: on short lines and subscriber segments the VFL and meter cover most jobs; the exact distance to a backbone break still needs an OTDR.
What levels does it measure?
The typical range covers PON and Ethernet line signals — from CO transmitters down to subscriber levels.
