Application
Line short-circuit isolation

The Bolid BRIZ branching and isolating unit protects an addressable line from total failure: on a short circuit in a section the unit disconnects exactly that segment, while the rest of the loop with its detectors keeps working. Without isolators a single short circuit can take out the whole line.

Advantages

  • Localises a short circuit, keeping the rest of the line operational
  • Powered from the line itself, no separate connection needed
  • Requires no setup — it is inserted into the two-wire line
  • The compact body fits in a junction box
  • A mandatory element in projects with many detectors on a loop

Applications

  • Extended addressable lines of the Orion system
  • Buildings with several floors and fire compartments
  • Sites where the cable is exposed to mechanical damage
  • Systems with high survivability requirements

Frequently asked questions

How many isolators should be fitted on a line?
Usually at floor and fire compartment boundaries, so damage does not affect neighboring zones. The quantity is determined by the design.
Does the section recover after repair?
Yes, the unit automatically returns the segment to service once the short circuit is cleared.
Are isolators needed if the line is short?
On small sites the requirements are lighter, but with many detectors on one loop they pay for themselves with the first fault.
