The IPDL-D-11/4R linear smoke detector monitors smoke along an optical beam between transmitter and receiver: one pair covers a space that would otherwise need dozens of point detectors. This is the standard solution for rooms with high ceilings, where smoke rises and disperses and servicing detectors at ceiling level is expensive and awkward.

How is a linear detector serviced?
The optics are cleaned periodically and the alignment checked. The device itself reports contamination in advance.
At what height is it installed?
Under the ceiling, along a clear path. The height and the length of the section are calculated by the designer from the geometry of the room.
