The Pixietech SFP WDM module at 1490/1550 nm wavelengths with a range of up to 80 km is a solution for establishing ultra-long single-fiber optical channels in backbone and regional networks. The device is intended for communication operators and large infrastructure projects where sites need to be connected over tens of kilometers without intermediate amplifiers. The 24 dB power budget ensures stable operation even on routes with significant losses.
Advantages
- Range up to 80 km: covers regional distances without amplifiers and intermediate nodes
- 24 dB budget: a high margin to compensate for the total losses of long routes
- WDM over a single fiber: maximally efficient use of limited cable capacity
- Dual wavelength 1490/1550 nm: works in a paired scheme with a 1550/1490 nm module
- Standard SFP form factor: compatibility with a wide range of professional active equipment
- 1-year manufacturer warranty: confirmed Pixietech quality
Applications
- Intercity and regional optical backbones
- Connecting remote energy, transport infrastructure, and industrial sites
- Transport networks of communication operators with long fiber-optic routes
- Backup and primary channels in critically important security systems
Frequently asked questions
What does the 1490/1550 nm designation mean for this module?
These are the transmitting and receiving wavelengths. The module transmits at 1490 nm and receives at 1550 nm; its partner (PXT-SFP-W54-80) works in mirror mode, forming a duplex pair.
Is a signal amplifier needed when used at 80 km?
On routes with total losses within 24 dB, an amplifier is not required. If the budget is exceeded or old fiber with high attenuation is used, a preliminary OTDR survey of the route will be required.
Is this module used in CWDM systems?
No, this module is intended for a simple WDM pair (BiDi). For CWDM systems with several channels, specialized equipment with other wavelengths per the ITU-T G.694.2 standard is used.
