Description

The Pixietech SC/UPC fast connector is designed for terminating subscriber drop cable without a fusion splicer: cleave the fiber, seat it in the mechanical splice — and the line is ready in a minute. The internal index-matching gel fills the joint and provides a stable, low-loss connection, while the housing is designed for flat drop cable and fiber in 250/900 um buffer. This is a consumable for the FTTH "last meter" that installers carry in their bags by the dozen.

The economics are simple: a fusion splicer is expensive, while subscriber connections number in the hundreds. A fast connector lets a crew connect subscribers with only a stripper and a cleaver, without being tied to costly equipment. If a termination goes wrong, the connector allows reassembly — the fiber is cleaved again and re-seated, without losing the connector itself. The UPC polish gives low back reflection, sufficient for typical GPON networks.

Advantages

  • Drop cable termination in a minute
  • No fusion splicer needed
  • Internal gel — stable low losses
  • For flat drop cable and 250/900 um fiber
  • Reassembly allowed after a failed termination
  • Standard SC/UPC connector for any adapters

Applications

  • Subscriber FTTH connections
  • Termination in subscriber outlets
  • Fast repair of damaged lines
  • Temporary lines and test benches
  • Drop termination in floor-level optical boxes

Mounting and connection

Before installation, the outer jacket is removed from the drop cable, the fiber is stripped of its buffer and wiped with a lint-free alcohol wipe. The key operation is the cleave: the end face must be flat and perpendicular, so use a properly working cleaver with the cleave length specified for the particular connector. The prepared fiber is inserted into the housing until a slight stop with an indicator bow appears, then locked by the mechanism latch. The finished connector plugs into the SC adapter of an outlet, box or patch panel and is held by the standard latch. Termination quality is checked with a power meter or a visual fault locator; if losses are too high, the termination is redone. Connectors and the full installation toolkit ship from the Tashkent warehouse — SAT Solutions equips FTTH crews with materials for the project.

Frequently asked questions

How reliable is a fast connector compared to fusion splicing?
For the subscriber section, a gel-based mechanical joint serves for years; backbone lines still use fusion splicing.
What tools are needed for installation?
Only a stripper and a cleaver — no fusion splicer is required.
What to do after a failed installation?
The connector allows re-termination: the fiber is cleaved anew and seated again.
How much loss does this joint introduce?
More than a fusion splice, but within the GPON subscriber line budget — with a quality cleave the joint works stably for years.
