An SC/UPC fibre pigtail — a length of single-mode fibre in a 0.9 mm buffer with a factory-terminated connector on one end. The free end is spliced to the cable fibre in an ODF or closure, giving factory-grade connection quality on subscriber and backbone lines. UPC polish keeps losses low in typical Ethernet and PON networks.
Advantages
- Factory-polished connector — consistently low loss
- Single-mode fibre for any distance
- 0.9 mm buffer lays neatly in splice trays
- SC — the most common ODF standard
- 1.5 m length with routing margin
Applications
- Cable termination in optical distribution frames
- Splicing in closures
- FTTH subscriber connections
- Server rooms and comms nodes
Frequently asked questions
How does a pigtail differ from a patch cord?
A patch cord has connectors on both ends; a pigtail has one — the other end is spliced onto the cable fibre.
What does UPC mean?
Ultra Physical Contact — a domed end-face polish with low loss; the standard for Ethernet links and most ODFs.
Does the blue connector body matter?
Yes — blue marks UPC polish, so it is never confused with green APC during patching.
