Description
The LC/UPC optical pigtail, 1.5 m long, is a length of single-mode fiber in 0.9 mm buffer with a factory-terminated small-form-factor connector. The free end is fusion-spliced to the cable fiber in an ODF or box, giving factory-grade joint quality. The LC format is the standard of high-density panels and SFP/SFP+ optical modules. UPC polishing provides low insertion loss on 1G/10G links and above.
Pigtails are exactly how fibers are terminated when building fiber lines: a fiber-to-pigtail splice is more stable and durable than mechanical connectors. The compact LC fits twice as many ports on the same panel as SC, which matters in data centers and dense frames. The 1.5 m length is enough for neat routing in the tray with a reserve for re-splicing.

Mounting and connection
The pigtail is fusion-spliced to the cable fiber: a cleaver prepares the end face, the joint is protected with a splice sleeve and laid into the frame tray. The LC connector locks into a front-panel adapter, from which a patch cord carries the line to the switch SFP module. It is important to respect the bend radii of the 0.9 mm buffer and not leave the fiber under tension. Before connection the ferrule is wiped with a lint-free cloth — end-face contamination remains the main cause of loss.
