CRS310-8G+2S+IN is a switch with eight 2.5 Gbps copper ports and two 10 Gbps SFP+. Running 2.5 Gbps over ordinary twisted pair is a way to raise throughput on existing wiring without pulling new cable.
The problem it solves: modern Wi-Fi 6 access points and workstations run into the gigabit port limit, while laying a new line is expensive. A 2.5G port removes that ceiling on the same Cat 5e cable.
Two SFP+ ports give a ten-gigabit uplink to the core or to a server. RouterOS provides VLANs, routing and firewall, and passive cooling keeps the office quiet.
Frequently asked questions
What does the "8G+" in the name mean?
Eight 2.5G copper ports: ordinary Cat5e starts delivering 2.5 gigabits — Wi-Fi 6 access points and NAS stop hitting the gigabit ceiling.
Do cables need replacing for 2.5G?
Usually not: 2.5G runs over already-installed Cat5e at office distances — that is the point of the standard.
What are the SFP+ ports for?
A 10G uplink to the core or a server: eight 2.5G clients easily saturate a gigabit combined; a ten removes the bottleneck.
