Attenuation
15 dB

The Pixietech PXT-ATT-FF-SC-15dB optical attenuator with 15 dB attenuation and SC Female-Female connectors is used to significantly reduce the optical signal level in lines where the transmitter power substantially exceeds the receiver's allowable input level. 15 dB is an effective tool for ultra-short links with high-power sources, as well as for precise power balancing during equipment testing and commissioning. The Female-Female form factor provides direct insertion between two SC patch cords.

Advantages

  • 15 dB attenuation reduces power by about 30-fold, protecting sensitive photodetectors from overload
  • The high attenuation rating allows working with high-power laser sources on short links
  • The Female-Female design minimizes the number of components in the line and simplifies installation
  • The passive design requires no power and introduces no active distortion into the signal
  • A 1-year warranty from the manufacturer Pixietech ensures component reliability

Applications

  • Ultra-short optical links with high-power transmitters
  • Laboratory and test benches for testing optical equipment
  • Power level balancing in branched PON networks
  • Commissioning work when putting telecommunication nodes into operation

Frequently asked questions

When is an attenuator with exactly 15 dB attenuation used rather than a lower one?
When the signal power at the receiver input exceeds the maximum allowable level by more than 10 dB, a 15 dB attenuator is used for reliable protection.
Is the attenuator compatible with any type of single-mode fiber?
A passive attenuator is compatible with any single-mode fiber and equipment using an SC connector.
Does the attenuator require maintenance?
No, a passive device requires no maintenance; you only need to keep the connector end faces clean and use protective caps during storage.
