The TP-Link SM321B-2 SFP module is the second half of a single-fiber pair: it is installed at the opposite end of the line from an SM321A-2 module. Such a pair brings up a gigabit channel over one fiber at distances up to 2 kilometers. Typical uses are links between buildings on a plant site and connecting a remote CCTV node.

Take a pair with a longer range — for example modules for 10 kilometers. It is better to plan link budget headroom in advance.
Is a media converter needed along with the module?
If the switch has an SFP slot, no. A converter is only needed for equipment with copper ports only.
