The MikroTik CRS510-8XS-2XQ-IN is a switch with eight 25 Gbps SFP28 ports and two 100 Gbps QSFP28 ports in a compact desktop enclosure. It fills the niche between ten-gigabit models and a full data center core: the eight 25 Gbps ports connect servers or aggregation switches, while the two hundred-gigabit channels go upstream to the network core. For a growing server room this is a sensible step — ten gigabit is already tight, yet a modular chassis is still overkill. Meanwhile, the SFP28 ports are backward compatible with SFP+ 10G modules, so the move to 25G happens in stages.
The software side is RouterOS with a full feature set: routing, VLAN, firewall, MPLS, VPN. Hardware switching on a dedicated chip delivers the rated speeds without loading the CPU — L2 rules are processed at line rate. Installation and setup
The switch is placed in the server room next to the machines it connects: over short distances, servers are conveniently attached with SFP28 DAC cables; over long runs, with optical modules on multimode or single-mode fiber. The QSFP28 hundred-gigabit uplinks go to the core or to a second switch for redundancy. When planning, split traffic into VLANs in advance and decide which RouterOS features run in hardware and which go through the CPU — the resulting performance depends on it. The desktop enclosure needs no dedicated cooled cabinet, but airflow in the server room is mandatory.
